ABSTRACT

, a widely used Chinese herbal medicine, was considered as central nervous system (CNS) drug for years. Both ethanol extracts (EES) and water extracts (WES) of it were applied clinically. Unfortunately, the difference of their efficacy and even effective material foundation of remains obscure. In this study, to explore the active constituents of , we compared pharmacodynamics and chemical profiles / of EES/WES for the first time using multiple chemical analysis, pharmacological and data processing approaches. It was proved that there was no significant difference in the anti-depressive effects between WES and EES. However, the contents of most components and in plasma were higher in EES than those in WES, which was unconvincing for their similar efficacy. Therefore, we further explored components of targeted onto brain and the results showed that 5 lignans were identified with definite absorptivity respectively both in EES and WES caused by the limitation of blood-brain barrier. Moreover, bioinformatic analysis predicted their anti-depressive action. Above all, the systematic strategy screened 5 brain-targeted effective substances of and it was suggested that exploring the components into nidi would promote the studies on herbs effective material basis.

ABSTRACT

Haima Bushen Pills (HBP) is a kind of major Chinese materia medica varieties, which has been proven to be effective. However, due to its weak research foundation and simple quality control method, the quality of HBP cannot be evaluated scientifically and controlled effectively. In this paper, the chemical components of HBP and components ingested into the blood were identified and characterized based on the concept and determination principle of quality marker (Q-marker). Then, through the animal models, proteomics, metabolomics, network pharmacology, receptor binding and enzyme detection and other methods, its effectiveness was evaluated, the mechanism was explained, the effective components were determined, and the Q-marker was extracted. This paper provides theoretical and experimental evidence for giving full play to the clinical value and establishing a scientific quality evaluation system of HBP.

ABSTRACT

Ethnomedicine is the precious wealth left by ethnic minorities in their struggle against diseases. It is similar to traditional Chinese medicine in a narrow sense and has the characteristics of multi-component,multi-target and multi-channel synergy. Under the guidance of the theory of ethnomedicine, the combination of ethnomedicine and network pharmacology will help to understand the essence of the prevention and treatment of ethnomedicines in a dynamic and holistic manner. This paper reviews the research progress of network pharmacology applied in ethnomedicine, analyses the problems and challenges existing in the application of network pharmacology in ethnomedicine research at present, such as inaccurate data and information, lack of network analysis platform for effective analysis of dose-effect relationship of chemical constituents and weak basic research of ethnomedicine, and puts forward corresponding prospects.

ABSTRACT

Studies on the effective material basis of Chinese materia medica (CMM), which is critical for clarifying the mechanism of action and control quality. The main research methods on the effective material basis of CMM were reviewed through consulting relevant literature in this paper. It mainly includes the serum pharmaceutical chemistry, spectrum-effect and PK/PD model research.

ABSTRACT

Four properties and five tastes are the core content of medicinal theory of Chinese materia medica (CMM), and it is important for modern study of CMM to elucidate the scientific connotation of five tastes based on the application of bionic technology. With the development of bionic technology, electronic nose and electronic tongue have become the objective method to determine the taste and smell in recent years. Based on the taste and odour connotation of five tastes of CMM, the working principle, research method, and identification of flavor substances in CMM of electronic nose and electronic tongue were summarized, and the progress on original variety, production place, growth period, storage life and processing technology of CMM were reviewed in this article. Combined with the practice of our research group on the characterization of medicinal properties, the basic research model of the definition and characterization of the five tastes of effective materials basis was proposed, which would provide a reference method for the medicinal research on five tastes of CMM.

ABSTRACT

Gastrodia elata is a kind of precious Chinese materia medica, which showed good effect in the treatment of headache, improve learning and memory, antidepressant, and other neuropharmacology effects. In this paper, the neuropharmacology effects and corresponding chemical constituents of G. elata in the last ten years were summarized and sorted by referring the literature of CNKI and PubMed, as well as inquired the development of G. elata related drugs and health care products in the official website of the Chinese Food and Drug Administration, which provides reference to develop nervous and mental diseases products of G. elata.
